There has been a lot of confusion and urban myth surrounding Obama.

In the interest of getting the facts straight before proceeding with any future commentary on Obama, I present the following summary of Obama lore with sources.

Barack is not a Muslim. He prays to Jesus every night.

His full name is Barack Hussein Obama. He is not related to Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden. He is, however, a relative of both George Bush and Dick Cheney.

He dressed up in traditional Somali clothing once. The current president of the USA and former president of Russia have also dressed in traditional foreign garb as well. In the interest of full disclosure, I sometimes dress with a sweater vest, green pants, and yellow socks.

Bush and Putin in Vietnam

Obama did not put his hand over his heart (at least once) during the star spangled banner. Snopes has the full story and this video:

Obama was not sworn into office with a Quran, but with the Christian Bible.

Please don’t decide your vote based on some random email that was forwarded to you. Instead, examine the issues and whether or not you agree with Obama’s policy stances. Go through both eventual nominee’s website, their list of stances, and write down why you agree/disagree with each issue. No matter who you vote for this November, vote rationally!

Your Grandfather showed up on the first tee with green pants. What does that mean? Oh…btw…he had on a yellow sweater.

just a question, do you have a problem with someone not raising their hand to their heart during the National Anthem? oh and you forgot to say that he doesnt wear flag pins either

Obama was the only one who sang. Insert black people are good at singing reference here.

Sorry, I meant to add one more thing about him being related to Saddam/Bin Laden/Bush Cheney, I just made an edit.

Does it bother me? Well, it does, but not for the reasons you think. It bothers me because it’s so puzzling. Usually politicians are oozing with symbolism (flag pins, for instance). But from a voting perspective? I’m more concerned about what bills he’s going to sign with that hand.

I voted for Obama in the Texas primaries. I didn’t see any point to voting in the Republican primaries and I want to see what I consider the two best candidates up there for the top job.

I voted for Obama in light of his weaknesses and the many criticisms about him. I weighed those criticisms and my own personal assessment against Clinton, and I felt more comfortable with him potentially holding the job than her.

I plan on voting for McCain in November unless McCain or Obama changes my mind before then. However, if McCain loses, I want the person who does win to be the best possible second choice.

I am so tired of the misinformation campaign around Obama. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to NOT vote for him. Instead we’re seeing a running Out of Context Theater around him. That makes his opposition look desperate in my eyes, but I’m still worried that the less informed will fall for it.

I didn’t realize autism and mercury was such a big issue to you…is Obama with “Big Mercury” or “Big Autism”?

I’ll make post(s) about the candidates probably sometime after we know who the candidates will be…

  • Jonny says:

Ouch. McCain is inching towards Big Christian Science and Big Scientology.

  • minywheats says:

    johny gets it, thanks buddy

Okay well, from what I’ve read, John McCain isn’t telling people not to vaccinate, especially since Thiomersal has been removed from vaccines anyway.

This whole Thiomersal thing is a bizarre controversy that I’ve never heard of before. It looks like there was some evidence suggesting a link between Thiomersal and Autism a few years ago, but’s it’s largely been refuted since. I guess the controversy is because of lingering lawsuits or something?

I think McCain probably just got forwarded an email about it and didn’t check it out at snopes.com (or here at mgroves.com).

I’ll go do some research at my local “reading room” and get back to you…
