New Games for Atari Jaguar
Some new Jaguar games are in development, according to Albert at AtariAge. And when I say “new games in development”, I mean homebrew games.
The games are Project Apocalypse, Seaplane, Double Feature #1 (a compilation), Lost Treasures (also a compilation), and also Another World (a.k.a. Out of This World).
There’s video clips available for Project Apocalypse and Sea Plane, but I uploaded them both to Youtube for the sake of convenience:
Project Apocalypse
Sea Plane
As you can see, these games don’t exactly break new ground or push the Jaguar to the limit. Project Apocalypse looks like a standard vertical shmup, with an odd obsessions with insects/spiders. Sea Plane, however, looks intriguing. You don’t see the all-directions scrolling freedom of movement in too many overheader shmups. And while the game doesn’t look nearly complete, it already looks like it could be quite fun to play.
Also, this is the last day to get your entries in for the Name Those Pixels contest. There are a bunch of clues posted, so it should be pretty easy to guess at this point.
If you’re going to develop a video game on weekends why wouldn’t you develop it on viable modern system? Those are probably too crappy for a Gameboy Advance game but as a cellphone game the developer could get some actual money.
Well, my guess is that they don’t do it for the money, they do it because they love the Atari Jaguar (for whatever bizarre reason).
