As a baseball fan in Columbus, I’m quite familiar with the Columbus Clippers (Yankees AAA affiliate) and 73 year old Cooper Stadium (old Jet Stadium). It’s a rundown old stadium desperately in need of updating or replacement. That’s why I’m not surprised to see Franklin County buying up 7 acres of land for a new baseball park for $11.5 million.
UPDATE: Huntington Bank has purchased naming rights to the new park. They’ve agreed to pay $12 million over 23 years. I’ve attached a couple mock-ups of the new park to this article. I’m very happy and excited that the Clippers are getting a new park in a better area. Even though I’m not really a Clippers fan, they are the closest to a “hometown team” that I’ve ever had and they are long overdue for a nicer, more inviting stadium. Hopefully the parking won’t be too bad when I put in my 3 Clippers’ games next summer.
